Rajasthan government today urged the agitating specially-abled people to end their agitation and resume talks as Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje held a meeting to discuss the matter.
The specially-abled persons, who have been agitating for over a week, are mainly demanding from the government raise in pension and filling of the backlog under three per cent reservation.
The Chief Minister chaired a meeting to discuss the issues related with welfare and empowerment of specially abled persons.
She asked the officials of the social justice department to deal with the issue of agitation with full sensitivity.
"The government is providing maximum pension of Rs.750 per month and they are demanding to raise it to 1500. The government will have to look financial and other aspects before taking decisions," Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Arun Chaturvedi told reporters.
He said there is three per cent reservation to disabled and if the candidates are less than this quota, the remaining seats are filled by general candidates and there is no provision of backlog.
The minister said certain political parties were also trying to misguide them and taking advantage on this issue.
He said he had meeting with the representatives of the specially abled people three times but they did not call off the agitation.
The minister said the government was serious to address the demand but the agitators should also not be adamant.
