"In both the matters, the state government will recommend to the Centre an inquiry by the CBI," Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria told a press conference after meeting some Rajput community leaders here.
After the meeting, the Rajput community leaders said they have called-off their proposed state-wide rally on July 22, when BJP president Amit Shah visits Rajasthan.
The gangster was killed in a police encounter at Malasar in Churu district on June 24. His death triggered protests by the Rajput community to which he belonged. They demanded a CBI inquiry.
The BJP government had earlier refused to recommend a CBI probe but changed its stance following today's meeting.
State Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria, Panchayati Raj Minister Rajendra Rathore and state BJP president Ashok Parnami met the community representatives.
"We submitted a seven-point demand letter to the state government today. It has agreed to recommend a CBI inquiry in both the matter. The agitation on July 22 has been called off," community leader Giriraj Singh Lotwara said.
Surendra Singh, killed during the Shradhanjali Rally on July 12, was earlier identified as Lalchand Sharma of Haryana However, later on, the family members identified him as Surendra Singh of Malasar.
