Sanitaryware company HSIL today said the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board has directed it to close operations at its Kaharani unit in Alwar, citing violation of environmental norms.
The company, however, said it has initiated necessary legal recourse against the order, insisting it complied with all prescribed laws.
The Kaharani unit is engaged in manufacturing of faucets.
"We have received a letter from Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB)... Regarding revocation of consent to operate and direction for closure of our Kaharani unit, situated in the district Alwar in State of Rajasthan," HSIL said in a BSE filing.
The order follows after the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on March 1 revoked its consent to operate the Kaharani unit of the company "on account of few sample tests conducted by the authorities".
HSIL, however, said it is challenging the order to close the unit.
"The company has complied with the prescribed laws and disagrees with the contentions of the RSPCB and has initiated necessary legal recourse against the order," it said.
It insisted that it has installed prescribed equipment for effluent and sewerage treatment at the Kaharani manufacturing unit and that the unit is a zero water discharge unit.
Shares of HSIL closed at Rs 326.10, down 2.28 per cent from the previous close on BSE.
