"The state government has decided that districts are to immediately initiate efforts in carbon footprint reduction cutting across sectors such as urban management, tree plantation, water conservation and recycling, controlling tailpipe emissions, encouraging greater use of solar and wind energy among others," an official statement read.
A committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary, Environment and Forests and having both official and non-official members from Energy, Transportation, Urban Development, Industries shall oversee the eco-friendly work undertaken in the districts. A third party 'knowledge partner' shall study the initiatives and rank the districts, it said.
Talking further about the initiative, Raje said that the move was based on the mantra 'act locally to impact globally'.
Rajasthan has signed a Memorandum of Understanding for generating 40 GW of solar power, besides taking initiatives in forestry projects.
