Raje govt neglecting farmers' interests: Gehlot

Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot today accused the Vasundara Raje government of neglecting farmers' interests with regard to timely distribution of urea, proper prices and purchase of their agricultural produce.
Despite winning the Assembly polls by overwhelming majority in 2013, Raje government was neglecting the farmers' interests, Gehlot said in a statement here.
"Earlier, it has been the Congress raising the farmers' demand. Now Rashtriya Kisan Mahasabha (RKM) and Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) also openly come up against the BJP's anti-farmers policies", Gehlot said.
RKM and SJM have given an agitation ultimatum to the state and the Central governments, he pointed out.

Recalling his tenure, Gehlot said the BJP government in Rajasthan had stopped subsidy on agriculture equipments, Rs 150 per quintal subsidy of food grains' purchase, and was not making proper arrangements for procurement of produce.
"If the BJP government does not improve its working and welfare schemes for farmers, a day is not far when farmers would come on street with an agitation," Gehlot cautioned.
