Extending his 'Vijayadashmi' greetings, Home Minister Rajnath Singh today appealed to people to maintain peace and harmony in the country as there is no place for criminal activity.
In his message, the Home Minister referred to the cherished values of unity in diversity while making it clear that there shall be no tolerance of any criminal activity.
"I appeal to the citizens to maintain calm, peace and harmony and contribute to strengthening this great nation.
"I reiterate the stand of government of no tolerance of any criminal activity. Law enforcing agencies must act accordingly," he said.
Singh's appeal comes in the wake of several incidents of violence over allegation of cow slaughter, desecration of holy books and attacks on Dalits in different parts of the country.
The Home Minister said on the auspicious festival of 'Vijayadashmi', "I extend my best wishes to all my fellow citizens for celebrating it with the spirit of unity.
"Unity in diversity is the much celebrated value of our ancient culture," he said.
Vijayadashmi, also known as Dussehra, is celebrated across the country today.
The Home Minister is attending as chief guest at the Dussehra celebrations at the 'Luv, Kush Ramlila' at Red Fort ground and at the Ramlila ground in Central here.
