'Kahaani' actor Indraneil Sengupta rues not having seen Kolkata's Durga Puja festivities despite being a true blue 'Bong'.
Indraneil, an important lead in 'Gogoler Kirti', the film based on Samaresh Basu's immortal child sleuth Gogol said the 'Bonedi Barir Pujo' (traditional household puja) backdrop of the children's crime thriller made him yearn for the real puja time, the five days in autumn, but he will be away from the city this time again.
"I cherish the Bengali sentiment, the joint family, the get-together of all menbers old and young during this time, so well portrayed in Gogoler Kirti. We enjoyed the shooting part of this episode and people actually thought in sets that the pujas are here, I had this feel in another flick 'Doshomi' and again in a more traditional in the current one.
"Also the climax immersion images in Kahaani, the frenzy with drum beats and chanting reminded of Ganapati processions," the 'Autograph' star said at the premier of 'Gogoler Kirti'.
Indraneil, also turning up in 'Sajarur Kanta' of popular fictional sleuth Byomkesh Bakshi, said "I had no qualms to be a part of any project by any new director. The script has to be good enough to excite me, Weren't we all beginners at some point! Srijit and me both debuted in Autograph and you know it created history."
"I think what matters is the narration and its topicality."
About his role in the children's flick, he said, "I had been the on screen Ashok uncle of child actor Ahijit in the first one and its sequel."
On very few among present day children familiar with Bengali classics, he said, "Today's kids find little time to go beyond their academics. So it's not compulsory. I had watched and liked Anjan Dutta's Bomkesh (in Adim Ripu) as an audience but didn't have the opportunity to read Saradindu Bandyopadhyay.
"So I am all for book reading habits but don't think it is compulsory to read the literary work beforehand in eevery situation," he signed off.
