Front, 51, will reunite with her former co-star Peter Capaldi when she appears in the forthcoming Zygon two-parter later this year, reported Digital Spy.
Details of the role she will play in the episodes are currently a closely guarded secret.
Front will also reunite with Jenna Coleman, whom she starred alongside in BBC One period drama "Death Comes to Pemberley".
The Zygon two-parter will also feature the returns of Jemma Redgrave as Kate Stewart and Ingrid Oliver as Osgood.
Peter Harness has penned the story, which is said to have an enormous cliffhanger.
"Doctor Who" will return to BBC One for its ninth series in the autumn.
