MGM studios is close to sign a deal with Reese Witherspoon to reprise her role as the idealistic Elle Woods in "Legally Blonde 3".
The studio has brought back most of the creative team from the first film, reported Deadline.
Witherspoon would also produce through her Hello Sunshine production company, if the deal goes through. Original producer Marc Platt and his Platt Productions president Adam Siegel are also producing.
MGM is also near closing a screenwriting deal with Kirsten "Kiwi" Smith and Karen McCullah, who wrote the adapted script for the 2001 original.
Elle Woods was last seen on screen in 2003's "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde".
Witherspoon was most recently seen in "A Wrinkle in Time." She is currently working on the second season of HBO's "Big Little Lies.
