Regional parties have bright future: Bardhan

CPI national secretary A B Bardhan today said regional parties in the various states have a "bright future" and there were prospects of a new alignment of forces to form the next government at the Centre.
"The regional parties are capable of doing very well in the next parliamentary election as people are fed up with Congress and BJP," Bardhan told reporters here.
"Left parties would also perform better than in 2009 which would brighten prospects for a new alignment of forces to form the next government at the Centre," he said.
Asked to comment on Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress, also a regional party, the CPI leader said the Left parties are capable of excelling in West Bengal on their own strength.

"CPI has already made its stand clear on the idea of a federal front mooted by Banerjee ... Such a platform is neither feasible nor would it inspire people's confidence," he said.
Referring to UPA and NDA, the CPI veteran said according to the party's assessment Congress would not win more than 100-120 seats in Lok Sabha, while BJP would fail to exceed 140-145 seat mark as it had turned out to be a very weak opposition.

"Therefore, there is a possibility of a new alignment of forces .. And a new government coming into existence at the centre in 2014," Bardhan said, adding CPI has already spoken and written to some regional parties as part of its efforts for a Left and democratic political alternative.

The response of these regional parties have been "very positive", he said, adding CPI hoped that they would consider the Left's policies and programmes to provide a viable alternative at the Centre.
A non-Congress, non-BJP coalition pursuing credible alternate policies on people's issues would be acceptable to the voters, he added.
