: The renovated Customs office at the old port here was inaugurated Tuesday by chief commissioner of Customs (Bengaluru zone) A K Jyothishi.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the 133-year-old building has a vast history of international trade and would be converted into a regional Customs museum.

The department would develop it into a tourist spot on the lines of the Customs museum in Goa, he said and appealed to stakeholders to donate artefacts linked to the department for display at the museum.

Mangaluru Customs commissioner Parag C Borkar said the old customs offices, most of them located near the ports always invoked nostalgia.

The department is proud to have carried out the restoration work on the old office, he said.

The Customs office building at Bunder Old Port, constructed in 1886, has been renovated at a cost of Rs 89.46 lakh.
