The newly-constitued Rohtak Municipal Corporation (RMC) today got its first mayor in Renu Dabla who was elected to the chair at a meeting of corporators at the Mini Secretariat here.
The post had been reserved for a woman corporator from amongst Schedule Caste (SC) members.
Apart from Renu, corporator from Ward No.4, Mamta Rani (Ward No.2, Poonam Kiloi (Ward No.18) and Sushila Indora (Ward No.3) were also vying for the coveted post.
After the Rohtak Municipal Council was upgraded to a Corporation, elections to its 20 wards were held on June 2.
The meeting to nominate the Mayor was chaired by Rohtak division Commissioner Suprabha Dahiya, who was also the Chief Returning Officer for the election.
Meanwhile, Shakuntla Rajliwala was elected Mayor of Hisar Nagar Nigam today. Her bid for the post was supported by Congress.
Rajliwala bagged 16 out of 20 votes while the remaining four votes went to her rival from INLD, Rekha Aran.
Only BJP and INLD had fought the election on party symbols. BJP had contested 14 of the 20 seats but lost all of them.
Congress, on the other hand, did not contest the elections but openly supported Rajliwala.
The senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor of Hisar would be elected before August 7, sources added.
