A report that examines the status of disabled persons working in the private sector in India was released here today ahead of the upcoming International Day of People With Disability on December 3.
Compiled by the American India Foundation (AIF) on the basis of primary research covering more than a hundred small, medium and large private companies, the report seeks to throw light on the practices, operations and policies of their demonstrated inclusive employment policies.
"We hope the report inspires the private sector to come forward and do its bit to help the differently-abled join the engines that are driving the country's growth," said American India Foundation CEO, MA Ravi Kumar.
AIF also released an illustrated story book for children, 'Just Like You', on the occasion which follows the journey of three disabled children accompanied by a training manual on inclusive education.
The foundation said the findings of the report not only holds relevance for people with disabilities, but also for potential employers, donors and other stakeholders.
Founded in 2001, AIF partners with governments and NGOs to develop and test innovative solutions that can have sustainable impact. Their Ability-Based Livelihood Empowerment Programme (ABLE) trains persons with disabilities to facilitate their entry into the job market.
