'Reservations can't serve tribal development objective solely'

Reservations alone cannot serve the purpose of development of tribes, the founder trustee, BAIF Development Research Foundation, Narayan Hegde, today said.
During the sessions on Tribal Health Systems on the fourth day of Samvaad-a Pan-India tribal conclave here, Hegde said "reservation for tribals can not serve the purpose but we needed willpower to act, to ensure education of their children, to promote health among their communities, to adopt measures for a regular income."
Partapi Bai, a traditional healer from Rajasthan said, "Our knowledge about traditional medicines has passed from generation to generation. We have been practicing and teaching the next generation as well."

Dr. Abhay Bang, Director, SEARCH (Society for Education, Action and Research in Community Health), a NGO working in Gadhchiroli, Maharashta, said, "With basic training you can become barefoot healthcare providers at village level."
Samvaad 2016, a pan-India tribal conclave organized by Tata Steel, witnessed exchange of ideas and culture among the tribes from across the country.
Films of Anthropological Survey of India were also screened during the 3rd edition of the event, a Tata Steel press release said.
Speaking on the perspectives of tribal development, Jadav Payeng, called the 'Forest Man of India' said, "Tribals are closest to nature. They contributed to nature by taking plantation drives on a massive scale.
