Restart teacher recruitment process: Baijal to Delhi govt

Lt Governor Anil Baijal has asked the Delhi government to restart the process of recruitment of teachers by the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB), saying any delay may hamper the interests of students.
Baijal stressed on the recommencement of the process in a note to Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, said a statement from the LG office.
"Withholding recruitment process for a long period is bound to adversely impact the studies of students due to paucity of regular teachers," Baijal wrote in his note.
The deputy CM had earlier written to the Lt Governor on August 9, indicating that instructions were given by him to the Chief Secretary to put the recruitment process on hold for considering the policy of weightage to be given to guest teachers.

He had also asked the Directorate of Education to reformulate the policy of recruitment of teachers based on weightage to the guest teachers.
The LG office statement noted that Baijal had agreed to put on hold the recruitment process for consideration of the weightage issue.

"But, the (LG)office did not receive the proposal(on weightage) despite a lapse of more than six weeks, despite two reminders sent on September 14 and September 26," it said.
A contempt petition has already been filed in the Delhi High Court against holding up of the teacher recruitment process and the court is monitoring the progress in this regard.

The Lt Governor in his note to Sisodia said that the matter has already been delayed for "more than six weeks" and it "may not be desirable" to keep th recruitment process on hold further and it "must be recommenced" without further delay.
