Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club will chase history to become the first Bangladesh club to win the IFA Shield when they take on Mohammedan Sporting in the summit clash at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan here tomorrow.
Dhanmondi Club stormed into the final of the 118-year-old tournament with a thumping 3-0 victory over 28-time champions East Bengal in the semis, while in the group stage they ousted Mohun Bagan.
They might have lost 1-2 to Mohammedan Sporting in their group league in Barasat, but their Nigerian coach Joseph Afusi said they had now acclimatised to the artificial surface and are confident of a win.
Dhanmondi Club's striking trio of Emeka Darlington, Wedson Anselme and Sony Norde, who is rumoured to be in the radar of Mohun Bagan, will once again pose a big challenge to the Mohammedan Sporting defence.
On their way to the final, Sheikh Jamal scored eight goals in four matches with Haitian duo Sony and Wedson scoring three goals each.
Nigerian Emeka struck two and it is very much clear that the visitors will be hoping for one more spectacular performance from the trio.
As for the popular city challengers Mohammedan Sporting it would be a big moment if they can win the coveted title for the first time after 1971.
That they had become the Durand Cup champions in 2013 after a big gap of 72 years will once again motivate the Sanjoy Sen-coached side.
Joshimar d'Silva Martins will spearhead the Mohammedan Sporting attack while the think tank may bring Ashim Biswas later on to boost the attack.
Mohammedan Sporting of Dhaka were the last and only Bangladesh club to make the Shield final in 1995, which was won by East Bengal.
