Revenue officials conduct GST training for budding lawyers

To groom and enhance students' professional skills in helping small businesses file GST returns, officials from the Kolkata North CGST and CX Commissionerate in association with the CII conducted an outreach programme at the NUJS campus here today.

"This is part of an exercise to bridge the gap between the department and who we call prospective GST (Goods and Services Tax) consultants. The idea is also to explain to students how GST consultancy could be a good career option," said Devendra Nagvenkar, Commissioner of CGST and Central Excise North Commissionerate, who led the team.

He said the team chose West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) because it is a prestigious institute.

"We are explaining to the students here all budding lawyers why they need to understand GST, arguably the biggest reform in indirect tax system in our country, he said.

Nagvenkar said the department will visit more institutes only after the admission process gets over.
