Revenue staffers strike work to protest attack on colleague

Revenue department officials in the district today struck work to protest an alleged attack on their colleague, who was on election duty at Murbad, by two persons on Friday.
The officials submitted a memorandum to the Maharashtra PWD and District Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde demanding the arrest of the accused and filing of chargesheet on a priority.
Revenue Employees Association President J S Patil and Executive President Bhaskar Ghavale claimed that the protest was a total success and around 2,000 staffers from the Revenue department struck work.
Vilas Tungar, a clerk attached to local tehsil department was allegedly manhandled by two persons after he refused to accept a bunch of electoral forms brought by them, police had said.
Sachin Gharat and Vishal Gharat approached the clerk at Tehsil office carrying a bunch of Form 6 on October 14. Tungar, however, refused to accept the forms in bulk and asked them to approach Talathi, sub-inspector K M Mathe of Murbad police station had said.
However, the Gharats got annoyed and started abusing Tungar. They pulled him out of his chair and slapped him, police said, adding that the duo also threatened Tungar.
Earlier, the delegation of the employees also met District Collector Mahendra Kalyankar and submitted a memorandum in this regard.
