RINL registers best ever production of iron, liquid steel

The Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) today said it has achieved best ever monthly production in August for hot Metal (iron), liquid steel and gross sinter production.
The corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, RINL recorded growth of 18 per cent in hot metal, 14 per cent growth in liquid steel and 19 per cent in gross sinter production, best for any month since its inception, a company statement released here said.
During April-August 2014, improvements were registered in techno-economic parameters like blast furnace productivity being up by 36 per cent, total fuel rate by two per cent, specific energy consumption by one per cent, specific water consumption by six per cent and labour productivity by two percent compared to corresponding period last year, it said.

Chairman and Managing Director, RINL, P Madhusudan said that efforts are being made to ramp up the downstream units, and the production is expected to pick up progressively during the coming months.
The production in August, was however, to some extent impacted due to the incessant monsoon rains during the last week, he said.
The company also achieved a turnover of Rs 1,084 crore in August this year, the best in the current fiscal with a growth of 8 per cent over the previous month. With this, the cumulative turnover grew by three per cent at Rs 4,726 crore during the current fiscal till August against last year's corresponding period of Rs 4,571 crore.

The dispatch of 1,84,000 tonnes of steel by Rail is also the best for any August since inception, the company said.
