RJD candidate Shahnawaz Alam is leading over his nearest JD(U) candidate Murshid Alam by over 13,000 votes in Jokihat Assembly seat at the end of 13 rounds of counting, EC sources said.

While Shahnawaz Alam of RJD so far got 35,435 votes, Murshid Alam OF JD (U) polled 23,256 votes.

The resignation of JD(U) MLA Sarfaraz Alam, who quit the party earlier this year and got elected on an RJD ticket to the Lok Sabha from Araria, a seat held by his late father Mohammad Taslimuddin, necessitated the by-election.

There are nine candidates are in the fray.
