In a memorandum submitted to the Divisional Commissioner, RLD has demanded that FIR be lodged against the sugar mill owners who have not paid the farmers followed by their arrest.
"Sugar Commissioner of the state is assuring payment of the second instalment to farmers by sugar mills whereas they the mills haven't even paid the first instalment," RLD West UP in-charge, Dr Rajkumar Sangwan said.
He said that if strict laws were contemplated earlier against the violators, the mill owners wouldn't have become so defiant and highlighted that in some cases despite lodging of FIRs no investigations ware carried out.
