The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) Commissioner today submitted his Budget proposal of Rs 2,018 crore for the year 2016-17 to the RMC's standing committee.
The RMC Commissioner Vijay Nehra has made some bold proposals, including that of increasing water tax from Rs 840 to Rs 1,680, stopping vehicle allowance of civic employees completely, and cutting their travelling allowance up to 50 per cent.
"It's necessary to increase water tax as RMC's expenditure has gone up. Civic employees would be given bus pass. These (proposed provisions) will help the civic body to reduce the deficit," Nehra said.
The RMC chief, however, has not put forth any new development projects, but stressed on making Rajkot a clean and open defecation-free city.
"Around Rs 5 crore would be allotted for 'clean city' campaign. The RMC will conduct a drive and give wardwise prizes for keeping the wards clean," he said.
"It's not easy (making the city clean and open defecation-free), but we will keep working hard on these two points," he said.
He proposed that Rs 100 crore be allotted for 'SMART Ghar' project, under which Sustainable, Modern, Affordable, Resilient, Technology-driven (SMART) houses would be constructed by the civic body.
