The tribunal directed Bharti Axa General Insurance Co. Ltd, insurer of the offending vehicle, to pay Rs 3,75,000 to the parents of Vikas, who died in September last year.
"On considering all the facts, I am of the view that the petitioners have proved that Vikas died due to the injuries sustained in the accident near Neem Chowk, Sangam Vihar due to rash and negligent driving of the tractor...By the driver," MACT presiding officer K S Mohi said.
The petition filed by victim's parents said that on September 2, 2013, while Vikas was going to his house, a speeding tractor came from Pahari Wala School towards Peepal Chowk in Sangam Vihar here, in a rash and negligent manner and ran over him.
As the driver tried to run away, an eyewitness chased him and handed him over to the police.
The driver and owner of the tractor, through written statements, denied the allegations and said that the accident took place due to the victim's mistake.
