Family members of a 35-year-old school teacher, who died in a road accident in 2011, have been awarded a compensation of over Rs 33 lakh by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal here.
The tribunal directed Oriental Insurance Company Ltd, with which the car was insured, to pay Rs 33,87,300 as compensation to the mother, wife and two minor sons of Haryana native Ashok Kumar who died in 2011.
"It is established that Ashok Kumar succumbed to the injuries sustained in road accident... Due to rash and negligent driving of the vehicle (Qualis) by respondent no 1 (driver).
"Documents filed on record show that the offending vehicle was owned by respondent no 2 (owner) and insured with respondent no 3 (Insurer)," MACT presiding officer K S Mohi said.
According to the petition, on December 8, 2011, while Ashok was coming from his village Kultajpur in Haryana on a motorcycle, a Qualis driven in a rash and negligent manner hit him.
Due to the forceful impact, he fell down on the road and sustained grievous injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital but he died during treatment.
The driver and owner of the vehicle did not file any written statement and were proceeded ex-parte.
The insurance company had claimed that the contents of the petition were false.
