The Ministry of Road transport and Highways will host the Grand Finale of the Smart India Hackathon 2017 in Nagpur on April 1-2.
Nagpur is one among 26 cities where the event will be held simultaneously, with the support and coordination of 29 Government departments.
Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate the event at Sri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering in Nagpur on April 1.
"The Smart India Hackathon 2017 was launched on November 9, 2016 in New Delhi by the Ministry of Human Resources Development to harnesses the creativity and expertise of students, build funnel for 'Startup India, Standup India' campaigns, crowd source solutions for improving governance and quality of life and provide opportunity to citizens to contribute innovative solutions for nation building," the Ministry said in a statement.
For the first time different government departments have directly engaged with students and challenged them to build digital solutions to improve their efficiency, plug revenue leakages and corruption.
It said MoHRD had received 598 problem statements from 29 different government ministries and departments against which ideas were received from 7531 teams out of which 637 ideas and 84 teams comprising 672 youngsters have been selected for the finale.
"During the Grand Finale these teams will work nonstop for 36 hours to build products based on their ideas," the statement said.
The newly developed products will be evaluated by experts and prizes shall be distributed for winners, 1st runner up and 2nd runner up, it added.
"But what is more important is that at least 5 best teams will work with MoRTH to ensure that the proposed ideas get smoothly implemented by the Ministry to bring efficiency into its working," the statement said.
