The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) today passed three "non-official resolutions" in connection with 140 of the 351 roads which are under consideration to be declared as "mixed use", the civic body said.

Leader of the House in the SDMC Kamaljeet Sehrawat moved the three separate resolutions that were carried by the municipal House.

The Delhi government had recently said that it would issue a notification on mixed-land use along 351 roads soon after the Supreme Court approves it, paving the way for legalising commercial establishments there.

The move intends to avoid the sealing drive against commercial establishments along these roads.

"The SDMC today discussed the issued related to 140 roads which are under consideration to be declared as mixed use and shop-cum residence plots," the SDMC said in a statement.

During the deliberations in the House, it was stated that the "process of declaring 351 roads as mixed use is on, and 140 such roads are coming under the jurisdiction of the SDMC".

Earlier the Delhi government, on the recommendation of a standing committee of the then unified MCD, had notified certain roads as mixed use roads in September 2006 and April 2007.

"The unified MCD after this had sent another proposal to the Delhi government on May 7, 2007, to declare the 351 roads as mixed use roads," it said.

The property situated on these 351 roads are "protected by Delhi Special Act (special provision), 2007". It has been requested that sealing action on these roads be "stopped and the information to this effect may be communicated to DDA's STF so that relief could be provided to the traders," the statement said.
