A gang of robbers shot dead a man and thrashed his brother when they resisted an attempt to loot their house in Bareilly district in Uttar Pradesh, police said Wednesday.
The gang entered the house in Baimyana village in the Bhamaura area on Tuesday night.
As the family members raised an alarm, the gang shot dead Chaman (38) and thrashed his brother Naseemuddin (45), the police said.
Naseemudding suffered injuries.
On hearing gun shots, neighbours came out and nabbed two members of the gang, while the rest managed to flee.
The duo, identified as Naved and Acchan, were handed over to the police.
Attempts were on to nab other members of the gang, said Senior Superintendent of Police Muniraj.
