Doggett and partner Reyes (Annabeth Gish) were introduced as potential replacements for the beloved Mulder and Scully in the Fox drama's final two seasons (2000-2002), reported Digital Spy.
However, Patrick said that he has not been asked back for the new revival, after he and Gish also sat out the last "X-Files" movie in 2008.
Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) will be back - alongside Mitch Pileggi as their old ally Walter Skinner and William B Davis as their old enemy The Smoking Man.
"The X-Files" will return to Fox on January 24, 2016.
