: A total of Rs 10 lakh in cash was seized from a car in a village near here Wednesday by the static surveillance team of the election department.

The unaccounted money meant to bribe voters was being brought from neighbouring Villupuram in Tamil Nadu, when the team intercepted the car and effected the seizure, deputy district election officer S Sakthivelu told reporters here.

As of Wednesday, 25,000 banners, placards, cutouts and grafitti have been removed since March 10 when the model code of conduct came into force for the Parliamentary elections on April 18, he said.
