"The differently-abled persons need our compassion and help to get a firm foothold in society. It is the government and society's responsibility to give them opportunities and make them an asset for the society," Gogoi said while laying the foundation stone of Deaf-Dumb Institution and Training Centre at Titabor today.
"We have decided to announce a big scheme involving Rs 100 crore for their overall welfare. I will instruct officials of the departments concerned today itself to prepare the scheme encompassing training, providing kits like wheel chair, hearing aid, audio meter etc," he added.
"The differently-abled persons are an asset for the society and not a liability. They have abundant talents, what they need is our support and not sympathy," he added.
Right type of "training and exposure will give them impetus to excel in life," Gogoi said.
