RSP's Project Sunayana: New hope for elderly underprivileged

Project Sunayana, a CSR initiative of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), has become a beacon of hope for many a poor elderly person living in and around Rourkela having cataract problem.
These people are identified in health camps organised by RSP and thereafter brought to Ispat General Hospital. Advanced check up is being carried out at IGH after which free surgery as well as pre and post operative care is being extended to them free of cost, a senior RSP official said.
Recently 13 persons from Rourkela and nearby places availed the facility and got back their clear vision. In a programme organised at IGH on March 6, as many as six persons were discharged after successful surgery.
They are 70-year-old Saraswati Suna of Keshramal, Rajgangpur Block, Birajini Toppo (50)of Aamghat village, Rajagnagpur Block, Minaketan Kar (40) of Ruen village, Bisra Block, Taifil Soren (60) of Ramghat village, Rajgangpur Block and D Kujur (60) of Bondamunda, Bisra Block, sources said.
Dr D R Mishra, Joint Director, Medical & Health Services, Mr S Mallick, Deputy Manager (CSR) and many other doctors and officers of RSP were present on the occasion.
In another such programme held on March 13 at IGH, six more persons were discharged after surgery.
They are Dibyaswarnima Lakra (37) of Rambahal village, Rajgangpur block, Rahil Baxla (50) of Keshramal, Rajgangpur, Pawan Kumar Majhi (54) Hamirpur Village, Bira Sahu (51), Rourkela, Udayanath Nayak (65) of Rourkela and Arabinda Das (55) of Rourkela.
Dr R R Mohanty and Dr Pushpa Kumari, both ophthalmologists of IGH had operated on the eyes of these patients. Dr Sanjiv Mohanty, Director (Medical and Health Services) presented post operative care accessories to these beneficiaries, they said.
