Ruckus continued in the Odisha Assembly today for the 12th consecutive day due to uproar by opposition Congress and BJP members who were demanding a debate on the chit fund issue.
BJP today walked out of the House as the Speaker rejected their demands of allowing a debate in the chit fund issue and circulation of bills in Odia language along with English translation.
As there is no order in the House and Speaker does not listen to opposition, Congress legislatures do walk out of the proceeding, Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra said before he led the walkout.
BJP also followed the and asked Speaker Niranjan Pujari as to why he reserved ruling on the matter relating to introduction of bills in Odia language.
"We are also walking out of the House," BJP state president and senior member K V Singhdeo said while appealing to the Speaker to review or reconsider his ruling of not allowing a debate on the chit fund issue.
Terming it unfortunate that the Assembly passes Bills prepared in English copy without having Odia version, Mishra said his party has been opposing such violation of rules under Orissa Official language Act, 1954.
He said though Congress members are interested to participating in the Bills, they are unable to do so as the bills are being passed in violation of the law.
The Congress leader also referred a letter of Chief Secretary issued on November 2012 where it is said that the English translation of Odia bills should be introduced in the Assembly. "We are also totally opposed to passing of the bills without thorough discussion in the House," he said.
