Ruckus in NDMC House over "irregularity" at Hindu Rao hospital

The BJP-led North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) today witnessed pandemonium as the opposition Congress alleged irregularities and unsanitary conditions at the Hindu Rao hospital run by the civic body.
Congress councillors, led by Leader of Opposition Mukesh Goel, stormed the well of the House over the issue and, after a prolonged uproar, Mayor Yogender Chandolia was finally forced to adjourn it.
Congress has alleged that the hospital, the civic body's oldest and biggest, is in an "unsanitary condition" due to waste management issues.
The opposition today also circulated what it claimed were photographs of the hospital among the media. One of the photos shows dogs inside a patient ward.

Goel also raised the issue of medicines, which he alleged were "placed in another room and not in the central store".
"The shifting of medicines was done to sell it on the open market," he alleged.

He further charged that BJP used corporation funds to publish a list of its achievements for distribution at a national conference.
Meanwhile, irked by the "opposition's behaviour", the mayor today sent a complaint letter to Lt Governor Najeeb Jung.
The issue of Hindu Rao Hospital was "blown out of proportion" and is far from the reality. The photographs were shown to paint a bad picture, Chandolia said.

The mayor, taking cognisance of the complaint about unsanitary conditions, directed that the Sanitary Inspector at the hospital be suspended.
As to medicines being kept in a different room, he said that an inquiry has been ordered into the matter.
Leader of the House, Mira Aggarwal, said that the hospital is one of the largest hospitals in north Delhi and has more than 1,200 patients daily visiting its OPD.
