Gujarat state Congress incharge Rajiv Satav Tuesday said Chief Minister Vijay Rupani of BJP will not remain on his post after two months, drawing a sharp rebuke from the latter as the hustings hotted up for the Lok Sabha elections in the state.
Reacting to Satav's remark, Rupani said Congress president Rahul Gandhi's politics will be over in the next two months, seeking to imply that the Congress would lose the Lok Sabha polls, counting for which will be held on May 23.
"The chief minister will not be in office after two months," Satav said when asked about Rupani's criticism of the Congress in the run-up to April 23 polls.
Satav was talking to reporters at the airport.
When contacted, Rupani said, "Is Satav joining the BJP and will come to our party to take a decision to remove me? He is daydreaming. The Congress tried to spread such rumours before 2017 state assembly elections. Even after our win, the Opposition party did not stop spreading such rumours," Rupani told reporters in Sutrapada town in Gir-Somnath district.
Hitting back, the CM said the politics practiced by Rahul Gandhi will be over after the next two months.
While canvassing for the BJP in the state, Rupani has been unsparing in attacking the Opposition party over issues like corruption and minority appeasement.
On the other hand, the BJP has been building the poll narrative around themes of national security post Balakot air strike.
The BJP had won all 26 seats in Gujarat in 2014 elections.
