Besides, euro's weakness against the US dollar overseas and a lower opening in the domestic equity market also put pressure on the local currency, forex dealers said.
Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark Sensex fell by 142.04 points, or 0.72 per cent, to 19,585.23.
It had dropped from a one-week high by falling 44 paise to close at 62.51 against the dollar in the previous session.
