"Special DG S K Jain has taken charge of the office of the police chief. He will continue to serve as Acting DG till the (police) commission appoints a new DG," a senior Home department official told PTI.
Jain, who is also the senior most police officer, had in the past taken charge as the top cop before Rajiv Mehta took over as DG in October last year, the official said.
The Chief Minister, who heads the state's security commission, will be returning to the state tomorrow after his visit to the national capital. The commission is slated to be held early next week.
