S K Joshi assumes charge as Chief Secretary of Telangana govt

Senior IAS officer Shailendra Kumar Joshi today assumed charge as the new Chief Secretary of Telangana government.
Joshi took over from SP Singh.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, earlier in the day, decided to appoint Joshi as the new chief secretary and an order was issued to the effect.
Joshi, who was serving as Special Chief Secretary (irrigation), said he would work with team spirit, and aim at completing the flagship Kaleswaram irrigation project of the state government by the end of July, an official release said.
A separate Government Order (GO) said Joshi is placed in the full additional charge of the post of Special Chief Secretary to government (irrigation) until further orders.

Born on December 20, 1959 at Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, Joshi joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1984.

Starting his career as an assistant collector in Nellore district in undivided Andhra Pradesh, Joshi held various positions in his career as a civil servant.
He had a nine-year stint in the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests in two spells (from 1991 to 1994 and 2001 to 2006) in various capacities, dealing with the Ganga river conservation and the National Afforestation and Eco- Development Board.
Joshi was also involved in negotiations related to the Montreal Protocol on the ozone depleting substances.

He participated in the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (in 1992) in Rio de Janeiro and the United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development (2002) in Johannesburg, the release said.
In two other changes in the bureaucracy, Rajeshwar Tiwari, Special Chief Secretary (revenue), is placed in full additional charge of the post of Chief Commissioner of Land Administration, a GO said.
Smita Sabharwal, Secretary to CM, is placed in full additional charge of the post of Secretary to government (Rural Water Supply), it said.
