Government has appointed S K Mishra as acting Chairman of the Income-Tax Settlement Commission.
Mishra, who was Vice-Chairman of Mumbai Bench of the Commission, took charge here on March 30 and will be serving on the post until May-end.
"...My role would be to create awareness about role and importance of ITSC for resolving serious disputes between taxpayers and the department," Mishra told PTI today.
G C Jain had taken over as the acting Chairman of the Commission in December last year after the retirement of A P Saxena from the post. Jain retired on March 26.
ITSC is the apex body for I-T arbitration and settlement of cases.
At present, there are only seven members in the Commission as against the sanctioned strength of 21 and Mishra is expected to deal with this issue during his short tenure.
