Senior IAS officer S N Sahai is all set to be appointed the new Home Secretary of Delhi, a move aimed at ending the bitter row between Lt Governor Najeeb Jung and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over the top post.
Top sources said both Kejriwal and Jung have agreed on Sahai's name for the Home Secretary's post following which a recommendation was sent to the Union Home Ministry.
The AAP government had sent names of three officers including Urban Development Secretary Chetan B Sanghi to Jung and had kept Sahai as the first preference. A top official said Home Ministry is likely to clear Sahai's name soon.
The move is seen as a compromise formula between the AAP government and Jung to end the bitter fight on appointment of Home Secretary.
Currently two Home Secretaries -- one appointed by the AAP government and another who followed Jung's orders -- are functioning separately at the Delhi Secretariat.
Senior IAS official Dharam Pal, who was removed as Home Secretary last month by AAP government, has been discharging his duties while AAP appointee Rajendra Kumar have also been signing files.
Kumar has been functioning as Home Secretary despite clear directive by Union Home Ministry that Pal should be allowed to work without any hindrance.
Pal was removed by the AAP government after he signed a notification appointing Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police M K Meena as new chief of Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) following Jung's order.
Jung on June 8 had appointed Meena superseding Kejriwal's hand-picked chief S S Yadav. The AAP government had challenged the appointment in Delhi High Court.
