Indian American owned US professional basketball team -- The Sacramento King -- has announced to host its first-ever Bollywood-themed game that would celebrate Indian culture and cinema.
"The ultimate power of sports is the ability to connect people across geographic, economic and cultural lines," said Vivek Ranadive, the majority owner of Sacramento King.
"Together, we are catapulting basketball as the fastest growing sport in India. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and I also have plans to visit, and we hope to continue sharing the Kings experience throughout India," Ranadive said.
During the game Sacramento King Vs the Lakers, players will wear warm-up shirts featuring 'Kings' inscribed in Hindi.
Pop-Bollywood fusion performance from Anjali Ranadive, daughter of Vivek Ranadive, traditional dance performances from UC Davis student groups LashKara, a Hindi Film-Fusion group, and Sunatya, a Bharatanatyam group are some of the programmed that are lined up during the half time.
Performance from Sacramento Kings dancers dressed in traditional Indian attire are also scheduled.
This season, the Kings have televised over 20 live games in India, launched a website in Hindi, sent the Sacramento Kings Dancers to Mumbai and signed the team's first India-based sponsor.
