Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has asked its leaders to put in all efforts to strengthen the party's votebank in this Lok Sabha constituency to give a tough fight to Union Minister Preneet Kaur, a three-time MP from here.
Party sources said leaders have been asked to ensure SAD's victory in the 2014 parliamentary elections by increasing the party's votebank in the constituency.
Speculation is rife that SAD might bring a Bollywood actor or member of Majithia and Karion family to contest the polls against Preneet, popularly known as 'Maharani'. She is wife of former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.
SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal had given a hint in this regard during his visit here last month.
"It will be a surprise for Patiala," he had said.
The efforts to bolster the party's poll prospects began two weeks back when SAD president and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal attended three functions here to lay foundations stones for some development projects.
Close on the heels, the president of Youth Akali Dal and cabinet minister Bikramjit Singh Majitia had addressed five public meetings in various assembly segments of the Lok Sabha constituency.
Punjab Tourism Minister Swaran Singh Phillaur and Animal Husbandry Minister Gujzar Singh Ranike also attended various functions in the constituency.
