Haryana's main opposition Indian National Lok Dal too said it will support the Bandh.
Talking to reporters after presiding over a function in Phagwara, Badal claimed the decision of FDI in the retail sector would ruin the small shopkeepers of the country, which could not be tolerated at any cost.
"As a leading political party of the country the SAD cannot be just a mute spectator of this anti-people decision of the Union government. Therefore, we will extend wholehearted support to the call of Bharat Bandh," he said.
It was unfortunate that the Congress led-UPA government which had assumed power on the name of common people (Aam Aadmi) "is now bent on ruining them by taking such arbitrary decisions," he alleged.
INLD, which is also an ally of the SAD, said it will support the Bandh call for September 20.
Party president and former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala said in a statement here that is was time for people to come together and register a powerful protest "to stop measures which will further burden the people and ruin their livelihood."
"Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail will not be allowed in Haryana at any cost as farmers and petty traders will be ruined if it is implemented," Chautala said. (MORE)
