The four-day conference will be attended by several journalists from South Asian countries, Secretary General of SAFMA Imtiaz Alam told reporters here yesterday.

External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid will be the Chief Guest, while Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will be the guest of honour at the conference which will also focus on media's role in peace and cooperation in the region.

Alam said that the theme of the conference would be "South Asian Vision and Union" reflecting peace building, regional cooperation, pluralism and respect for human rights.

In spirit of the conference's theme, the second segment of the meet would take place at Lahore with participants crossing the Attari/Wagah border on January 7 to attend the remaining sessions.

As many as 250 delegates from India, Pakistan, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Afghanistan are expected to participate in the conference.
