Saif, 42, and Kareena, 32, completed the formalities in the presence of close friends and family at the actor's residence at Fortune Heights in suburban Bandra this afternoon.
"It was a registered marriage with three witnesses -- Kareena's father Randhir Kapoor, her mother Babita and Saif's mother Sharmila Tagore," marriage registrar Surekha Ramesh told PTI.
"The notice was submitted on September 12 and they had requested that the registry be held at their residence," she said, adding that they were charged the normal fee of Rs 1000.
Though the two pre-wedding functions, one held at Kareena's place and the other at a five-star hotel, were grand affairs with the who's who of B-town attending, the nuptials were kept simple without any frills.
Kareena wore a green salwar-kurta with a heavily embellished red dupatta wrapped around her. She teamed it up with minimal jewelry, red bangles and left her hair loose.
Saif, donning a grey kurta and white pajamas, came out with his beaming bride to greet fans from his balcony around 2pm. They waved and said 'namaste' folding their hands.
Kareena's father Randhir and elder sister Karisma were the first to step out onto the balcony.
The wedding will be followed by receptions in Mumbai and Delhi and a ceremony at Saif's ancestral Pataudi Palace in Haryana.
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was among the first actors to congratulate the couple, tweeting, "Happiest marriage bond to my friend Saif and Kareena. May Allah keep your family healthy and happy. Just saw it is registered, sealed and delivered." (MORE)
