Punjab BJP chief Vijay Sampla today accused former Rajya Sabha MP Navjot Singh Sidhu of breaching the party's trust by leaving it and likened him to a child who believes himself to be "cock of the walk".
Lashing out at the the cricketer-turned-politician, Sampla claimed it appears Sidhu considered himself to be bigger than the party.
"Often when a child is pampered much more than what is required and more than what he expects, he starts to take things for granted and does not give a damn about others. He thinks himself to be the cock of the walk," he said.
"The BJP did everything for Navjot Singh Sidhu. He was thrice chosen as MP and the party got his wife elected as an MLA, honouring her with a post of parliamentary secretary in the Akali-BJP government," Sampla claimed.
"If this was not enough, he got the chance to share the stage with prominent leaders at every function of BJP. I guess he had started to have illusions that he had become larger than the BJP and bigger than the 'parivar'(family)," he alleged.
With Sidhu-led Awaaz-e-Punjab claiming to be in talks with AAP and Congress for alliance, Sampla, taking a swipe at him, said "a rolling stone gathers no moss".
Sidhu, quit his Rajya Sabha membership on July 18 and in September had announced floating of a "non-political" platform, Awaaz-e-Punjab along with MLAs Pargat Singh, Simarjeet Singh Bains and Balwinder Singh Bains.
The former BJP leader, who had represented Amritsar in the Lok Sabha between 2004 and 2014, had accused BJP of using him as a "decorative piece" and trying to keep him out of Punjab.
