Sand smuggling detected, several vehicles seized
District officials have raided two sand dunes in Babhulgaon tehsil and seized several vehicles engaged in illegal smuggling of sand.
The raids were carried out yesterday morning.
A team headed by Pusad Sub-Divisional Officer Nitinkumar Hingole conducted raids at Watkhed I and Watkhed II sand dunes and found that a large quantity of sand was being smuggled out from the two sites.
The team seized 42 vehicles including a JCB and 38 trucks at Watkhed I and six vehicles from Watkhed II site.
The sand mafia managed to flee with six trucks and a tractor, an official said.
Police have registered cases under the IPC, Environment Protection Act and Maharashtra Land Revenue Code.
