The state's Lokayukta police yesterday arrested Satna Municipal Commissioner Surendra Kumar Kathuriya for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 12 lakh in cash and jewellery, said to be of gold, worth Rs 10 lakh.
Kathuriya had demanded Rs 40 lakh in cash and Rs 10 lakh worth of gold jewellery from a nursing home owner for not dismantling parts of its building that had allegedly been constructed illegally, Superintendent of Police, Lokayukta, Divesh Pathak earlier said.
The corruption in Madhya Pradesh has reached from the bottom to the top level, the Leader of Opposition in Madhya Pradesh Assembly alleged.
