SBI Cards and Payment Services Pvt Ltd has been asked by a consumer forum to pay Rs 15,000 for making threatening calls to one of its customers and not issuing him a no-objection certificate even after he cleared all the outstanding dues.
The New Delhi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, presided over by C K Chaturvedi, asked the firm to pay the money as compensation to east Delhi based Jai Prakash Saxena.
"We hold Opposite Party (firm) deficient in service and direct it to issue NOC to complainant and pay Rs 15,000 as compensation including litigation expenses," the forum said in its ex-parte order as the firm had not responded to the notice issued to it.
The forum, however, asked Saxena to deposit any credit card-related dues that were yet to be paid.
Saxena had approached the forum claiming that SBI Cards and Payment Services Pvt Ltd (SBICPSL) was making threatening calls to him and also alleged that he was not getting any fresh loans as his record in Credit Information Bureau (India) Limited showed him as a defaulter.
SBICPSL is a joint venture of SBI and GE Capital and focuses on marketing and distribution of SBI credit cards.
