Schneider Electric, a provider of energy solutions, is looking at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's plan to develop 100 new smart cities as a potential market for its products.
"We are looking at providing smart city solutions in the proposed cities. We have a range of power products -- transformers, switchgears, primary and secondary equipment -- for the smart cities," Prakash Chandraker, Vice President and Managing Director (Infrastructure Business) of Schneider Electric said.
"These smart cities are a great business proposition for us," he said, declining to provide details of any proposed investments.
Smart energy solutions include smart grid automation and flexible distribution, smart metering management and gas distribution management.
The Prime Minister yesterday talked about plans to build 100 smart cities in the country to generate employment while noting that urbanisation should be treated as an opportunity rather than a problem.
In January, Modi had promised to develop the smart cities as part of his vision for the country.
Schneider Electric also intends to expand its footprint in the north-eastern part of India, looking at business potential in areas such as power transmission and utility products.
The company employs over 18,000 employees across 40 cities in the country.
