The school buses were previously tested manually at Burari unit of the Transport department and so there were possibility of lapses, a senior Transport department official said.
The Jhuljhuli unit is equipped with an automated track and computerised system. These will ensure proper condition of the buses as per norms, the official said.
For better inspection, the Transport department also uses its drivers in the tests.
The move assumes significance in the wake of an incident in which a fire broke out in a school bus carrying students of the Kendriya Vidyalaya near Dhaula Kuan last week.
The Special Commissioner of Transport department K K Dahiya has directed the officials concerned to make all the necessary arrangements to make the Jhuljhuli unit functional in the week.
